Experience

Stephen obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Bcom) and Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA) at the University of Cape Town.

Stephen joined EY in Cape Town in 1997 to create transaction advisory capability. This was built to a staff complement of some 20 dedicated transaction professionals.

While at EY, Stephen worked on a broad range of transaction advisory engagements which included financial and commercial due diligences, business valuations, IFRS valuations, project appraisal, feasibilities, business planning, business modelling, mergers and acquisitions.

Financial, tax, commercial and actuarial due diligences: various buy-side and sell-side due diligence assignments across the following sectors:

  • Insurance – life and short term (Aon SA, Marsh (UK), Hollard, Metropolitan, Mutual & Federal, Old Mutual, Old Mutual Africa, Sanlam, Swiss Re, Colina (Ivory Coast), Ubuntu Bothu)

Fraser Russel was a firm of Chartered Accountants with eight offices in the South East.  The 38 partners were supported by approximately 240 professional and administration staff.  I was a senior consultant in their Corporate Development department which provided an integrated Corporate Finance & Consultancy service to the growing independent company.
