1995: The merger between Robert Mazars and Guérard Viala
In the past ten years Mazars has undergone profound changes involving ambitious international development and strong growth. The firm had the potential for international activity from the beginning, but it is only with the merger between Mazars and Guérard Viala that this aspiration could be fully expressed.
The merger between Robert Mazars and Guérard Viala originated from a meeting between Patrick de Cambourg and Michel Rosse, the chairman of Guérard Viala.
They quickly agreed that a collaboration between the two companies, which had similar sizes and strategies, would be a sensible market strategy.
“Things moved very quickly, with a first meeting in June, a second in July and a third in August. At the beginning of September, everything was settled in principle”.
At the beginning of October 1995, during the convention of Mazars partners in Barcelona, a delegation of partners from Guérard Viala came to Spain to formally sign the contract finalising the merger of the two firms, under the motto “shared trust and shared expertise”. The group’s new logo was unveiled at the same time.
Michel Rosse and Patrick de Cambourg were chosen as co-Chairmen.

"It was during these years that the first ranking
of French accounting firms was published,
a sign of the end of an era and of the integration to
come in the following decade. The quality of
its people and their experience in this area were
indispensable assets for an ambitious project."
