Denmark - Mazars steps in

During the 2007 Carl convention, Denmark was voted in as a new partner country. We’ve asked three questions to the local managing partner.

Working in the field of audit since 1988, Pia Lund Lillebaek is a member of the Institute of State Authorized Public Accountants of Denmark, she obtained her grade in 2004 and joined Mazars in 2005. She is the managing partner at the Danish office.

What is the current status of the Danish economy?

Denmark has enjoyed a long period of growth, with low credit interest rates and virtually no unemployment. Lately there has been a decline in real estate prices and falling rates at the stockmarket. But despite the slum, the Danish economy is still very strong.

What are the opportunities for a firm such as Mazars?

The joint audit system no longer exists in Denmark and we face tough competition from the larger accounting firms trying to held on to their position. At the same time, due to the regulations to preserve the independence of auditors, there are many assignments to be performed outside statutory auditing. Mazars can compete in both fields.

What in your opinion could be a competitive advantage for Mazars in Denmark?

As every other firm, our competitive edge lies in the quality of the people who work with us. We want to attract and maintain talent with us. We therefore made a survey with our junior staff, asking them “what do you think makes the difference in Mazars?” To them; Mazars’ values make the difference, especially two of them: respect of the individual and cultural diversity.
Furthermore, the Mazars’ values correspond to nowadays discussion within the Danish society. This is Mazars’ difference and advantage.
